Debian 10 "Buster" has arrived

Since a few days ago the server has been running on Debian 10 now. All games have been upgraded to the latest version in stable. Everything works fine except for the Teeworlds statistics which rely on qstat. Unfortunately the new network protocol of Teeworlds 0.7 appears to be incompatible with the current qstat version and someone has to fix that first.

New server

I moved linuxiuvat and all the games to another server. The new IPv4 address is 46.232.251.31 and IPv6 is 2a03:4000:2b:39b::1.

The new server should provide roughly the same performance but it is also a bit cheaper. The statistics show that there are still some players on the servers but we are far away from the peak in 2014/2015 when Minetest, OpenArena and Sauerbraten were the most visited games on linuxiuvat.de. It is not much of a surprise though because there is nobody who keeps those servers full all day long and you need at least a few regular players to achieve that. Sorry, the author of this text is not available for this task at the moment. :)

The good news is linuxiuvat.de will be online for the foreseeable future and there is no reason to worry.

Upgrade to Stretch and latest news

Two days ago I updated the whole server to Debian's upcoming stable version 9 alias known as "Stretch". Here are the most important changes:

  • IPv6 ready: The website and most of the game servers are also reachable by IPv6 in addition to IPv4 now.
  • PokerTH is back: I have enabled the server again.
  • I have disabled the old Sauerbraten Justice Edition server. The Collect Edition has been out for several years now and it was time to say goodbye to the old unsupported version.
  • I have created a new Minetest v7 world. We use PostgreSQL as map backend now. Player accounts have been migrated to the new world if they were active during the last two months. Minehippie and MLGomme will restore important objects/creations via the WorldEdit mod in the near future. The old word isn't lost and the complete backup can be downloaded from dl.gambaru.de. Please be prepared that the compressed tar archive is quite big and you will need at least 20 GB of free disk space to unpack it on your system. Due to data protection reasons passwords and auth.txt have been removed.

Red Eclipse 1.5.8 and Sauerbraten announcement

Debian prepares for the next stable release Debian 9 aka Stretch. I have updated Red Eclipse to version 1.5.8 in Jessie. This will be the last version for Jessie. If everything goes as planned I expect the release of Stretch in April or May 2017. As soon as Stretch is released I will update the whole server and all games to the latest available version.

This will also mark the end of Sauerbraten's "Justice Edition". I finally intend to remove the package from the server. Of course the "Collect Edition" is still supported.

Minetest News: 0.4.15 installed

Minetest 0.4.15. was released a few weeks ago. It is now up and running on linuxiuvat.de too. I had to disable the fire and lava protection mod. If you know why it's not working anymore, please send me a patch. :)
