Minetest News: January 2015

Last week I upgraded Minetest to version 0.4.11. While I was on it, I grabbed the sources and updated the official Debian package as well. You can find this version in the official Git repository of the Debian Games Team for now. Hopefully it will be uploaded soon.

The server was plagued by a bug in 3d Armor but thanks to some modifications by its developer I'm confident now that this is no longer an issue. I also discovered that the original inventory_plus mod by cornernote is unusable due to frequent server crashes. The issue is known but no fix is available. It turned out that a fork of inventory_plus by Zeg9 is the better alternative. I also reported another bug in inventory.cpp, this time in minetest itself, to the official bug tracker. However I seem to be the only one so far who experiences this bug. The file rollback.sqlite is growing in size although the rollback feature was disabled in minetest.conf. Quite strange.

Thanks to some dedicated players on the server, we now have a solid spawn point with signs, craft guides and a house all protected by the areas mod. I would hope that it was more accessible. Unfortunately most players don't even know how to use it. I will investigate whether the markers mod may help us out here.
